Young mares and geldings up to the age of 4 or 5 have the freedom to roam over some 300 acres of hill grazing from Spring to Autumn, deep in the Scottish Borders. The horses are regularly checked by ourselves and daily by the farmer, and are handled for routine veterinary care and hoof trimming. The opportunity to graze in such a wonderful hill park, gives the horses the terrain to develop natural muscle and fitness - preparing them for the future.
We have the facility to run a small herd of young colts/stallions on a smaller hillside field, where they can enjoy the freedom of space and each others company. These young horses can be kept entire until their future has been decided - either to be gelded or brought into training as young stallions. Whilst isolated from the riding/training horses, they are routinely checked and handled for veterinary care, hoof trimming and some early training in-hand.
